Raffaella Dolores Zahra
Raffaella Dolores Zahra is a conceptual artist, specialising in fashion design and art direction. She aims to create meaningful pieces with experimental and prominent cultural and aesthetic themes, exploring issues and ideas that are personally prominent. Having studied Interactive Digital Design at The BRIT School for four years, she built a solid foundation in a diverse range of design mediums, such as 3D modelling, animation, games design, graphic design and digital art. She integrates this wide skillset into her work, even incorporating her experience in makeup and hair design, from her background as a drag artist, to create a versatile range of fashion images. Her experience as a drag artist has consequently allowed her to establish a strong ability in fashion design and construction, that she has only further improved upon during her time studying Fashion and Textiles at Ravensbourne University. This has consequently enabled her to explore and perfect more experimental techniques and fabrications - such as the use of thermoplastics, acrylics and laser cutting, having built a signature method for creating synthetic structures to utilise within her designs. This perspective has been developed upon a pre-existing basis in highly technical sewing, stemming from her interest in historical dress. Her depth of knowledge on corsetry techniques, combined with her engrossment in innovative digital fashion techniques, has ultimately culminated in her unique and experimental style.
