Mary Ashokeji
Focusing on social realism and narrative, Mary Ashokeji specialises in documentary and portrait photography. She has a huge curiosity and specutation about visual storytelling and colour theory and would like to continue exploring this in the future, with any outlet that allows her to. Her next steps are to expand her critical and complementary thinking. Ashokeji is of Nigerian heritage and identifies as a christian. In either the models or the concept, a piece of herself can always be found in her work: this includes identity, diversity, and faith - what she is passionate about in real life, but also through her imagery and visual storytelling. She has been practising and studying photography for six years and has since realised the importance of identifying your purpose and passions. Ashokeji is looking to continue her studies in the visual arts or photojournalism as well as using the medium to help others express themselves as well - as a mentor or teacher, especially with young people. She is also interested in curation and archiving. Recently, she was shortlisted for a Sony World Photography Award.
