Jessica Hooley
Jessica Hooley is a fashion creative, based in south London, who specialises in fashion textiles and sustainable practice. Hooley's passion lies within textiles, creating her own fabric from manipulating second hand garments. The concept for Hooley’s Final Major Project stems from her father growing up in London, influenced by Rock ‘N’ Roll music such as Guns ‘N’ Roses. The carefree attitude and the rawness in the images is something Hooley was drawn to.
Sustainability is at the heart of Hooley's practice, as every piece created, has been curated from deconstructing key pieces from the 1990s such as denim jeans, leather jackets and band tees. These key items of second hand clothing have been bought via charity shops or donated from friends and family. Hooley insisted within her collection to carry on the story from each clothing item. Every piece has been deconstructed, sewn back together and draped to create her collection. Furthermore, Hooley's textiles were also curated from fabric left over from previous projects and sewing, to create a patch-like sample. Hooley also sought influence from key silhouettes from 1960s shape within clothing – focusing on circles, this helped contribute to the creation of the circle leather jacket band tee piece within the collection. Draping, sketching, collaging, fabric testing, and then manufacturing the garments, Hooley continued to express the rawness and strong attitude that comes from her personal research.
