Javiera Guzman
Javiera Guzman is a Chilean photographer and retoucher based in London. Guzman started photographing at the age of seventeen, influenced by a previous education in visual arts and fashion. In her work she demonstrates a passion for producing visually impactful and refined images by skilfully employing a combination of artificial and natural lighting techniques, predominantly within a studio environment. Additionally, she exhibits a keen understanding of composition and colour, further enhancing the aesthetic appeal of her creations. She is inspired by the concept of calm, connections, unique beauty, and juxtapositions.
The Interaction – This project focuses on the creative process to carry out this series of images, instead of focusing on the final result, as well as the discovery of my career ambition. The concept of this process is based on the use of Guzman's studio to document the behaviour and connections created with the models and show the model's experiences resulting in a digital portfolio.
Heritage – For this project, Guzman collaborated with Mensfile magazine and received a brief from photographer Matt Hind. Adhering to specific requirements outlined in the brief, Guzman created a complete article that matched the magazine's layout, while also incorporating her own photographic style and theme to align with the magazine's genre.
Mensfile – Throughout the process, Guzman was fortunate to receive guidance from both Mr. Hind and her teachers, which enabled her to effectively produce an article with a seamless sequence of images, resulting in positive feedback.
Overall, this project was a valuable opportunity to work within the constraints of a specific brief and to learn from experienced professionals in the field.
The Look – This artwork is a result of a personal project undertaken during the third year of study, which involved an exploration of skin tone manipulation techniques through participation in various workshops facilitated by Wexphoto and Agata Kocon.
Petrol Dress – This particular image is a constituent element of a collaborative project undertaken during my second academic year, in collaboration with a fellow fashion student. The project was geared towards examining the dynamics of composition and color editing within a set of images.
