Crystal Valine Alleyne

Crystal Valine Alleyne has a strong interest in hands-on projects such as printmaking, bookbinding and surface design. She is looking forward to exploring the different creative routes available to her when she graduates. At every opportunity Alleyne loves to bring elements of her culture and identity into her work, as these areas appeal to her as an aspiring black designer. Alleyne hails from Trinidad and Tobago, and her rich culture brings her so much joy which she aims to share with others through her work. It has given her the chance to learn more about her beloved country, which she feels is a real bonus to her creative practice.

In the summer of 2022, Alleyne was specially selected to be part of the design team in the Obama Exchange Programme in collaboration with Vault 49 and Creative Lab. The team designed a decorative jersey to showcase basketball culture growth in London and Chicago. Their team was recognised for their hard work and as a result Nike printed their designs and held a three-day event in October 2022 for Black History Month. As well as being involved in the Obama Exchange Programme, Alleyne has expanded her knowledge of the industry through work placements, including two days at Portas Creative Company and a two-week placement at Design Bridge and Partners.
